Let’s talk reality: COVID.
Yep, so get this – worldwide pandemic hits, shutdown and quarantine mandates are everywhere, it’s spreading anyway – and what do we do? We whine about how our lives are changed forever, jobs are lost and education is destroyed along with any hope of success with future generations – but it’s somebody else’s fault. Everyone is talking about it, writing about it, singing about it… even tv shows have written it into their story lines at this point as we have all entered the “new normal” phase over the last year. I know I’m opening a giant can of worms here, but it is what it is. My question is, why are we so selfish?
Yes, it is awful. It is a terrible thing, we all despise it from the bottom of our core and we wanted it over a year ago before it even happened. Just admit already that this whole thing has been a huge eye-opener to the state we are all in. At this point in our desperation we have literally lost our minds. If we were not so caught up in the world of “Me, Myself, and I” we would actually notice that the world was in need of a good cleansing. A sort of population control, if you will, as nature does its thing in the circle of life. A lot of bad things have happened to a lot of good people during this time, and that truly sucks. But some of the bad guys got what they’ve had coming for a while, and on the other hand, there are some “middle of the road” people that have been given a second chance at life and who they are, what they are doing and where they are going.
When bad things happen, we all want someone, or something, to blame. Bad things are going to happen whether you like it or not, and this is not the first, or the only, time in history where a large number of people suffered through rough times. Throughout history, there has been sickness, death, job loss, financial struggle and bankruptcy, government change, power plays, protests, discrimination, fear. The mask mandates are a new twist though, which has definitely made life a little more intriguing this time around.
But, selfish, you ask? YES. Once the pandemic was in full swing and the quarantines forced everyone into a lockdown, we had a honeymoon period of sweetness. Everyone was finding happiness in the little things, sharing their experiences however they could and making memories while learning new DIY skills and baking together etc… and then the honeymoon was over and reality hit, and suddenly the world was in a panic. When we realized there was no more toilet paper, somehow people lost their minds. Amidst the panic, the selfishness really came into fruition when people started pushing blame on others once the struggle was real. When things got real, we found out who we really were inside. Months later, we should have adapted to the big changes, and as much as we want them to be temporary we have no control over the timeline. Now here we are a whole year later, and why are we not helping ourselves, or each other? We are instead ripping our country, and each other, into pieces instead of figuring out this “new normal” lifestyle we have.
This is America. “Freedom” has always been the cry from the start of our nation… so now, when our freedoms are dangling by a thread centuries later, why are we allowing ourselves to become enslaved? Why are we allowing our selfishness to get the best of us, and why are we okay with destroying our nation in the process? Take a look deep inside yourself, and the next time you remove your mask from your trip to the grocery store, think about what truth you may be hiding inside that you need to set free.
Who are you, and what are you fighting for?
