“For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.”

Psalm 139:13-14

You are an overcomer. Whatever you are facing, I know that God can truly change your life and make you stronger than you know. You are beautiful, and you are amazing. You have qualities that nobody else does because you are unique in your own way.

You are loved.
Hear me when I tell you that you are loved.

I know, it may be a lot to grasp. You might think that you’re not loved, or believe you are not important, have no value, or that nobody could ever really understand you and love you for who you are. You may even feel like you don’t deserve it. You may feel like you are never seen or never heard for who you are. But guess what? God knew you before you were born. Psalm 139, verses 13 and 14 says, “For you formed my inward parts, you covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made, marvelous are your works and that my soul knows very well.” If we continue reading in this Psalm, we see that verses 15 and 16 go on to say, “My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in secret and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance being yet unformed. And in your book, they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them.”

God knew you before you were even born. He put you in your mother’s womb. He created you to be who you are. He loves you so much because you are his precious creation, his masterpiece. Have you ever created something, such as art or drawing, written a song or built a structure, or cooked? Have you ever made plans and decided what you wanted to do, how to do it and what you needed? These creations have a special place in our hearts. You have a vision and want to put things into action, and you want things to be a certain way. You want to plan out every move and every single little piece, and as you are creating you start to tailor it the way you want. Sometimes you might change something here and there to make it better, or stronger, and sometimes it doesn’t do exactly what you intended.

This is exactly what God has done with each of us. He has made you into who you are, and He has been making you stronger, wiser. When you encounter times when you’re struggling, or you’ve made choices that you realize could been done better, or in a different way, God takes those things and uses them to teach us and shape us still into the same person He always intended us to be. It sometimes just takes a little more time as we are learning along the way.

You may have heard this reference before, that it is just like when silver is being refined in a fire, and you are being shaped and purified along the way A refinement process is happening! When you are in the fire, you’re feeling the heat,. You are going through the pain and the suffering and the tears- it hurts, and it’s uncomfortable. But at the same time, it’s so beautiful because all the impurities are just falling falling off; all that yuck is going away. All of the stuff that is not who God intended you to be is disappearing. When we are allowing Him to craft us, to shape us into that beautiful masterpiece that He intended, then we later find that we are the absolute most beautiful piece of silver and the best artwork possible for our lives.

Look, I know it’s not easy, and I know there are many times that life is not fair. There are times that you may be doing everything right and be giving it all you’ve got, and still it seems you’ve been dealt unfair cards. You feel like everything you encounter should be better, and it should be different than it is. You think you shouldn’t have to deal with these things because you’re doing it right. But you know, sometimes those things are part of the refinement process because it may not always be for us. Sometimes we grow stronger through the suffering and make it through, and then see that someone else is going to need to lean on us. We may discover that we can lead someone else later and help them through their refinement process.

Think about this for a minute. God may be allowing you to go through something because he knows you can handle it, to then show somebody else who’s suffering how to lean on him through that process. If you are leaning on Him and making it, then someone who doesn’t know God is going to see that. It’s also a lot harder for some people because they may not have the same exposures or experiences as you. They may not have the same understanding as you. They may not even know who God is. You might have grown up with God in your life from the very beginning, but then on the other hand you may have no idea what it means to have a relationship with God. Maybe you are someone who didn’t even know it was possible.

Guess what? Having a relationship with God is everything He intended from the very beginning of time. When he created the earth, God later created Adam and Eve and put them in the garden to care for it and to walk and talk with Him every day, and that’s what they did. They had a life of walking and talking with God. We don’t have that relationship and access the same way today, because sin came into the garden and mankind allowed that sin to come between them and God.

Nobody is perfect. Not a single one of us can say that we have never sinned, that we’ve never done anything that goes against what God would want for our lives. There is nobody on this entire earth right now who can say that they are perfect. So, when you feel like your life is hopeless, like you have no life, like everything is falling apart, and you find yourself in the pit of despair, and you don’t have a way out – it’s a lie.

You DO have a way out… That lifeline is Jesus! You are an overcomer because he knows your name. He knows you. He knows your heart. He knows your mind, your soul. He knows everything from the inside out.

No matter how deep the pain, the fear, or the shame, no matter what you have been through or what you’ve chosen to do, God has seen it all and He still loves you. He offered grace and forgiveness to anyone who says, “God, I want you in my life, and I’m asking you to lead it.” He offers forgiveness for all and we must ask for it. It is such a simple piece: to ask, and to trust. Not always easy as it does take time, and can take effort and be a lot of work sometimes. When you’ve been down the roughest roads and you’ve been looking for hope for a long time, then finally meeting God- and believing in Jesus- is like finally seeing that light at the end of the tunnel. It has been so dark in that tunnel for so long, and you suddenly see the light ahead and it is getting bigger, and bigger, and bigger! You then find that eventually you do get out of that tunnel, and you are finally free of the darkness. Your life is not hopeless, because you have found that God is offering you this hope, and it all starts with Him as your center. It’s a new life, and one that has no limits because He is limitless to do wonders within our lives.

When we have found this new life, we also see clearly that death has absolutely no victory. When you are living in truth, you become alive. Jesus saves us from death. He finds us right where we are. He sees us right where we are. He sees you in your pain. He sees you in your suffering. He sees you as your heart is breaking. He sees you as you feel alone. He is there through the toughest times. He is all-seeing, all-knowing, and He sees it all. He is also there through the best of times. He knows your name, and he says, “I am here.” Jesus is calling your heart. He is handling everything, and although you may not see it or feel it or sometimes not even accept it, He is still there doing it whether you want it or not. You must believe that Jesus lives to have this life- HE LIVES.

You will be an overcomer because you already are one, and you just have to believe that Jesus can break those chains. If we can take this power of the Holy Spirit and speak the name of Jesus over every single struggle in our life, then that power will break the chains of anything holding us down.

So when you find yourself in your hardest days, those days where you’re sitting there saying,” why did I choose this life?” Or “how did I get here?” and you feel overwhelmed by whatever is happening around you- your day to day tasks, the things that you do all the time, and they just start to weigh you down- God is there, and He will take that burden from you. In this moment, you have to praise His name. You have to say things like, “God, I love you, I believe in you, I trust you” and then you actually have to hand it to Him. Now, if you don’t let go of that burden when you hand it to Him, it is not a full surrender to His lead. You can’t just say “okay, God, I love you, I trust you, here you go,” and then walk away still carrying the pack. I mean, that pack is heavy. If you’ve ever gone hiking, you usually have supplies or resources with you. When kids are heading to school they often have massive backpacks with all their books in their bags, and it gets heavy after a while carrying all of that weight. Moms often carry lots of things for their kids or hold the little ones, or carry a baby a baby carrier, or in a sling on their body. If it has been a long day after a while it can get so heavy- any of these things can feel so burdensome at some point. However, when someone is right there or shows up and says, “here, let me take that for you. I’ll carry that the rest of the way” if you are truly in need, you are not just going to say, “okay,” and then keep walking with it in your hand. No- you’ll say “ok, thank you, I needed that!” and then you’ll hand it to them. You will then feel immediately lighter! In that moment, you feel the weight of that burden lifted completely. If you’re feeling the burdens of life, of heaviness, of all of the things piling up and surrounding you, it is time to let go and let God handle it. This heaviness is coming from a place of feeling burdened, and we can feel lighter but will not get there if we are not fully giving up that burden.

To do this, to truly overcome the point of weariness and reach this place of surrender, just praise His name. You say, “I praise you, Jesus, I love you. God, you are my everything,” and you walk away leaving that stuff there. I know we can’t always physically walk away from the things. I mean, life is hard, and when you have a life that has a lot of tasks, a lot of burdens, a lot of people who might need you and depend on you, you can’t just suddenly drop all those responsibilities. You can seek Gods help and you can look for a way to have a support system. If you’ve already looked for a support system, and you’re not finding one, you have to really seek God’s direction on that, because he will provide it. He is Jehovah Jireh, our Provider. You just can’t put Him in a box. You can’t just hold on to the stuff and expect the road will get easier, because the burdens will just get heavier along the way as you continue to pile stuff on and grow weary. You have to learn how to reach the point of true surrender and let those things go completely into God’s hands. If you have responsibilities to take care of and you’re not sure how to balance them right or how to give it to God, then you need to be praying. You need to be saying, “God, I don’t know what to do with this. Please show me what to do.” It could take days, it could take weeks, it could take months, it could happen immediately the next day- but He always comes through. We continue to seek Him and trust He is more than able.

Your timeline is not God’s timeline. He’s going to take care of you how He sees fit. There have been many times in my own life I try to put my needs on a checklist. When I look at it all I see is that I need this, this, this, and this, and I need them to be done this way, and I expect that is how it is going to work out. God doesn’t work like that though. It is so easy for us to make that list and think, “oh, it’s all going to work out if everything happens like this.” I will say it again – you cannot put God in a box. You cannot tell God how to do the job. You are His creation, not the other way around! We didn’t create God, God created us. So if He’s going to do the work, we have to trust that He’s going to do it His way, and that it’s still going to be perfect and right. As people we tend to hold tight onto being in control and we don’t like to let go, and we don’t like for someone else to call the shots and it’s not comfortable. People don’t like to be uncomfortable. We don’t like for someone else to be telling us what to do, and then for us to get in a really uncomfortable position from it. We like to decide what’s best based on what we think and experience. And then we try to plan it out and make everything fit around that. But that is not how God works.

Grace is free, and it is given to those who ask for it. But you don’t deserve it- not a single one of us deserves grace. We have all crossed the line- One, two, three, a hundred times, a thousand times. We have all done it. In our sinful nature we have all disgraced the actual creation that God created. We have done things to destroy the artwork. Sometimes unintentional, but really deep down, it was intentional because at some point, you knew it was wrong. God has given us an opportunity to be transformed into the new life and the new creation that He always intended us to be. I really love reading in Romans, and Romans 8:35 says, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword?” If you jump down to verse 37, it says, “Yet in all these things, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” Once again, this is a reminder that God loves us, and He has made us overcomers. We are more than conquerors. We conquer, and we overcome distress, tribulation, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, sword. All those things are older words so let me put it in today’s language.

You are an overcomer of the pain, the fear, the suffering, the shame, financial difficulty, abuse, violence, all of these things. You are an overcomer. You will beat it, because Jesus already has.

He has already taken the beating. He has already bled and died for us, and then He rose again to show that He can conquer death. So if He can conquer all of that and go through everything that He went through in His life leading up to that, how could He not help us overcome what we’re going through? God calls us to be transformed, to renew our minds, renew our hearts. I’m telling you, just ask for His help if you’re struggling today. Tell him, “I want to be an overcomer, like you made me to be.” Tell him that you praise his name, that you’ll praise him in the good days and the bad, in the storms, and in the sunshine, and through all the ups and downs of whatever your life has. Just tell him, “I love you, and I will give it to you, just show me how.”

If you’re not sure how, just ask him to show you how. If you have something you’re struggling with today, I’m praying for you to let it go. I’m praying that you will lay it at his feet and say, “God, I believe you, I trust you, and you will make me stronger and more capable, and you will make me an overcomer in this situation because I believe that death has no victory in my life.”

Let’s pray:

God, I trust you. I love You so much, and I’m giving my life to You. I ask that You will take these burdens, take these things; take them from me as I’m offering them to You, and show me how I can feel light again. Show me how I can have a lighter burden, and that this work will be Yours and not mine. I ask, God, that You will lead my life, and help me to be a light to those around me so that they can see that You have made me an overcomer, and that You will make them an overcomer too. Amen.”

In Jesus’ name, I pray these things over your life. If you prayed those words and said those with me, you just prayed them over your own life as well. I praise God for these words He has given me to guide you in all these things that He is teaching me, that He’s showing me, in how we can overcome the burdens of this world. We can overcome all of these things: anger, sickness, pain, suffering, fear. All of these things have no place in your life or mine. God is going to burn those impurities right out, and He is going to shape us each into the most beautiful women this world has ever seen.
